In my opinion, some of the most interesting things stem from collaboration. In the art department, the semetsers always end with so many discarded projects. Things students did for class that they don’t want to keep, and usually will discard. What if there was something they could do with those projects? I borrowed a bookshelf from one of my professors, painted it green, and placed it in a well trafficked part of the hallway. Plenty of clips to hang things with, and shelves to put things on. I wrote “Free Gallery, Take Something Leave Something” on it, left the paint markers on the shelf, and walked away. I was delighted to see people leave their unwanted projects there, to see people take things they found interesting, and most of all I was delighted to see people discover the paint markers and leave graffiti on the shelf. The shelf held peoples art, and became art itself.
